SPECIALTY GARDENS
Lewis & Clark Garden This garden celebrates the myriad of botanical discoveries Meriwether Lewis and William Clark's Corps of Discovery made more than 200 years ago. It is a living museum of plants the explorers found in Oregon and documented in the journals they kept during their Journey through Oregon.
Sensory Garden This new therapeutic garden features remarkable scents and textures that exercise the imagination. It includes an in-ground compass, a large wood trellis of Port Orford cedar, vertical wall gardens and a beautiful rain curtain, 20 feet long and eight feet high. The garden creates an environment for the physically challenged to experience and enjoy nature close up. Located near the Visitor Center, adjacent to the stairway leading to the J. Frank Schmidt Jr. Pavilion. Mark Epstein of Seattle, Brian Bainnson of Quatrefoil Inc., and Maurice Horn of Joy Creek Nursery were all instrumental in designing this garden; financial support was provided by Conrad and Murial Stieber with additional assistance by the Oregon Pythians.
Pet Friendly Garden Bring Fido and let him check out the Pet Friendly Garden, which educates visitors as to which plants are friendly to pets and which plants are toxic. This garden addresses the issues of creating a landscape that accomodates both people and their pets.
Honor Garden The garden features a series of cedar totems that recognize the original donors who made special contributions in the development of The Oregon Garden. Plants in a spiraling pattern direct people to a meditative site. Julia Lundy was the architect.
