DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the summer in style with The Oregon Garden’s Summer Concert Series! This music series takes place once a month from June through August\, and features a lineup of beloved local musicians as well as food and drinks. Even better\, your ticket includes after hours admission to The Oregon Garden\, a very special treat this time of year.\n \nJune 12th • Tuesday String Band\n \nTuesday String Band is a bluegrass trio who love entertaining crowds with fast pickin’\, humorous onstage banter\, and string band versions of music from a wide variety of styles. These boys are on a special mission to keep the great string band tradition alive and relevant to the younger generations right here in the beautiful Willamette Valley!\n \nDoors at 5:30pm. Music from 6PM to 8PM.\nADMISSION\n13 and over: $10\n12 and under: Free\nGarden Members: $5*\n \n*please be prepared to show active membership card.\n \n\nOur Summer Concert Series is held outdoors on our Garden Green lawn. Come prepared for sunny weather as shade is limited! In the event of inclement weather\, we will move indoors.\n\nLimited sand chairs will be available to rent for $3 each. Guests are welcome to bring their own blankets and chairs. \nOutside food and drinks are allowed\, with the exception of alcoholic beverages. \nWell-behaved pets on leashes are welcome. \nParking is free.

SUMMARY:Garden University: Summer Pruning for Fruit Tree Success
DESCRIPTION:Kahlia Waters is coming to The Oregon Gardens to teach gardeners of all levels how to aesthetically prune fruit trees during the summer to encourage them grow and bear fruit! \n__ \nThis hands-on class introduces home gardeners to the principles of summer pruning for size control and improved productivity in fruit trees. We’ll draw from the Backyard Orchard Culture philosophy\, made popular by Dave Wilson Nursery\, which promotes small\, manageable trees in home gardens. Participants will learn how and why to summer prune\, and how it differs from traditional dormant pruning.\nThe class will include live demonstrations\, where participants will observe pruning techniques in action and learn how to assess plant structure\, identify key branches\, and make cuts that promote graceful\, healthy growth. In the final 15-20 minutes\, participants will have the opportunity to practice their new skills under guided supervision. \nWe will begin the workshops in the classroom to have a presentation about pruning\, and also the time to ask questions. Then we will walk out to the orchard to practice pruning. Please be mindful that this is about a .25 mile walk out to the orchard from the classroom. \n__ \nPlease bring your own water\, gloves\, and a hat! We encourage you to bring your own pruners so you can practice with your own tools\, however\, we have extra pairs you can use! You can also bring photos of your fruit trees \n__ \nKahlia Waters is the owner of Peace Earth Gardens. Gardening has been a lifelong passion for her\, rooted in 25 years of hands-on gardening and design expertise. Kahlia loves sharing this passion through design and classes that help others feel confident and inspired in their own gardens. DESCRIPTION:Learn to garden with beneficial insects and paint with cockroaches! \n__ \nDuring this workshop we will learn all about the good insects in your garden and how to encourage their presence. We know about how great ladybugs and praying mantids are\, but did you know there are many more awesome insects out there that can help eat those pesky caterpillars and aphids? Students will also receive several handouts that contain helpful resources and information on beneficial insects and pollinators. Next we will check out some pre-collected beneficial insects and take a little field trip to see what we can find around the garden. SUMMARY:Garden University: Tribal Histories of the Willamette Valley & further research
DESCRIPTION:Join David G. Lewis at the Garden for an introduction to the new book about the Native histories of when the tribes in the Willamette Valley encountered settlement. Further research into settler changes to the Willamette Valley will also be discussed. \n__ \nDavid G. Lewis is a citizen of the Grand Ronde tribe\, descendant of the Santiam\, Takelma and Chinook peoples of the region. David is an assistant Professor of Anthropology and Indigenous studies at OSU and lives in Salem. He writes the Quartux Journal Blog and is preparing additional publications about tribes in the region based on current research. \n__ \nDavid is the author of Tribal Histories of the Willamette Valley. Tribal Histories of the Willamette Valley is a must read book for anyone living here and wanting to know its history.
