SUMMARY:Garden University: Summer Pruning for Fruit Tree Success
DESCRIPTION:Kahlia Waters is coming to The Oregon Gardens to teach gardeners of all levels how to aesthetically prune fruit trees during the summer to encourage them grow and bear fruit! \n__ \nThis hands-on class introduces home gardeners to the principles of summer pruning for size control and improved productivity in fruit trees. We’ll draw from the Backyard Orchard Culture philosophy\, made popular by Dave Wilson Nursery\, which promotes small\, manageable trees in home gardens. Participants will learn how and why to summer prune\, and how it differs from traditional dormant pruning.\nThe class will include live demonstrations\, where participants will observe pruning techniques in action and learn how to assess plant structure\, identify key branches\, and make cuts that promote graceful\, healthy growth. In the final 15-20 minutes\, participants will have the opportunity to practice their new skills under guided supervision. \nWe will begin the workshops in the classroom to have a presentation about pruning\, and also the time to ask questions. Then we will walk out to the orchard to practice pruning. Please be mindful that this is about a .25 mile walk out to the orchard from the classroom. \n__ \nPlease bring your own water\, gloves\, and a hat! We encourage you to bring your own pruners so you can practice with your own tools\, however\, we have extra pairs you can use! You can also bring photos of your fruit trees \n__ \nKahlia Waters is the owner of Peace Earth Gardens. Gardening has been a lifelong passion for her\, rooted in 25 years of hands-on gardening and design expertise. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the summer in style with The Oregon Garden’s Summer Concert Series! This music series takes place once a month from June through August\, and features a lineup of beloved local musicians as well as food and drinks. Even better\, your ticket includes after hours admission to The Oregon Garden\, a very special treat this time of year.\n \nJune 12th • Tuesday String Band\n \nTuesday String Band is a bluegrass trio who love entertaining crowds with fast pickin’\, humorous onstage banter\, and string band versions of music from a wide variety of styles. These boys are on a special mission to keep the great string band tradition alive and relevant to the younger generations right here in the beautiful Willamette Valley!\n \nDoors at 5:30pm. Music from 6PM to 8PM.\nADMISSION\n13 and over: $10\n12 and under: Free\nGarden Members: $5*\n \n*please be prepared to show active membership card.\n \n\nOur Summer Concert Series is held outdoors on our Garden Green lawn. Come prepared for sunny weather as shade is limited! In the event of inclement weather\, we will move indoors.\n\nLimited sand chairs will be available to rent for $3 each. Guests are welcome to bring their own blankets and chairs. \nOutside food and drinks are allowed\, with the exception of alcoholic beverages. \nWell-behaved pets on leashes are welcome. \nParking is free.

SUMMARY:Native Plant Garden Tour and Bird House & Feeder Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Marion County Water and Soil Conservation is coming to give your a tour through our Native Garden Demonstration Garden\, and then educate you on how to care for bird hours and bird nests! \nRoseanne Yoder\, horticulturist at the Oregon Garden\, will discuss the work being done in the native plant demonstration garden. Free take-home resources on native plants will be provided. \nRay Temple will cover the importance of cleaning bird nesting boxes annually\, the role of proper siting for easier maintenance\, and the tools and precautions for the job. Stephanie Hazen\, veterinarian\, will explain the need for sanitation of bird feeders\, how to select the right feeders\, and steps to reduce the risk of disease and parasites. \nWe will divide the class into two groups and everyone will have the opportunity to rotate through both learning stations. We will raffle off the nesting boxes and bird feeders at the end of the workshop. Must be present to win. \nPlan to arrive by 12:45. \n__ \nThis is a free event\, but registration is required. DESCRIPTION:Get away from your daily tasks\, join Tsipora Berman in a breathing\, walking\, stretching\, strengthening exploration within the Oregon Garden. Tsipora Berman will; guide you through a multi-sensory\, transformative\, interdisciplinary yoga experience connecting Eco-Psychology\, Physics\, Neuroscience\, Biology\, Ecology\, and the Arts\, using a variety of mind/body practices.
