SUMMARY:Garden University: Helpful\, Hungry Bats
DESCRIPTION:Rick Reynolds is coming to the Oregon Garden to teach you about Bats! \nEvery night our furry\, flying friends – bats – can eat up to their body weight in insects. Learn about these fantastic creatures and ways they can catch so many dangerous mosquitoes\, crop-eating moths\, and other flying insects in the dark. Explore different types of bats\, their amazing adaptations\, and the important roles they play in Oregon and around the world in this interactive workshop with bat artifacts and hands-on activities. Discover ways to help them with bat-friendly habitats\, bat boxes\, and more! \nPresented in partnership with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Clackamas County Vector Control. \n__ \nRick Reynolds has been a passionate educator for 30 years. He creates educational resources with partners such as the National Park Service\, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service\, and NOAA through Engaging Every Student\, the organization he founded in 2009 with the mission to help make the learning process more compelling and meaningful. With a passion for environmental education\, Rick is an enthusiastic trainer of fellow educators and helps all ages connect with nature. He has authored or co-authored 20 books and curriculum guides. \nA certified teacher who has taught in elementary\, middle\, and high schools\, Rick is a past chair of the Board of the Environmental Education Association of Oregon (EEAO). He holds an M.S. in Education from the University of New Haven and a B.A. in Geography from the University of Connecticut. He enjoys exploring the beautiful Northwest with his wife and collaborator\, Krista\, as well as gardening\, tennis\, music\, and community service. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the summer in style with The Oregon Garden’s Summer Concert Series! This music series takes place once a month from June through August\, and features a lineup of beloved local musicians as well as food and drinks. Even better\, your ticket includes after hours admission to The Oregon Garden\, a very special treat this time of year.\n \nAugust 14th • Freight Train Jaine\n \nAll aboard! Freight Train Jaine – formerly the Macey Gard Band – is a powerhouse blend of pop\, rock\, and soul that hits you like a runaway train. Fasten your seatbelt\, this ride is about to get wild!\n \nDoors at 5:30pm. Music from 6PM to 8PM.\nADMISSION\n13 and over: $10\n12 and under: Free\nGarden Members: $5*\n \n*please be prepared to show active membership card.\n \n\nOur Summer Concert Series is held outdoors on our Garden Green lawn. Come prepared for sunny weather as shade is limited! In the event of inclement weather\, we will move indoors.\n\nLimited sand chairs will be available to rent for $3 each. Guests are welcome to bring their own blankets and chairs. \nOutside food and drinks are allowed\, with the exception of alcoholic beverages. \nWell-behaved pets on leashes are welcome. \nParking is free.

SUMMARY:Garden University: Aesthetic Pruning for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:Kahlia Waters is returning to the Oregon Garden! Unlock the hidden beauty in your trees and shrubs with the art of aesthetic pruning. \n__ \nThis is a beginner-friendly\, hands-on class that will introduce participants to the fundamental principles of pruning for form\, balance\, and visual appeal. Learn how to “read” the natural structure of a plant and make thoughtful cuts that enhance its beauty rather than just control its size. The class will include live demonstrations where participants will observe pruning techniques in action\, and then learn to assess plant structure\, identify key branches\, and make cuts that promote graceful\, healthy growth. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice their new skills under guided supervision.\n*We will begin the workshops in the classroom to have a presentation about pruning\, and also the time to ask questions. Then we will walk out to the pruning site to practice. Please be mindful that this is about a .25 mile walk out to the pruning site from the classroom. \n__ \nPlease bring your own water\, gloves\, and a hat! We encourage you to bring your own pruners so you can practice with your own tools\, however\, we have extra pairs you can use! You can also bring photos of your fruit trees \n__ \nKahlia Waters is the owner of Peace Earth Gardens.
