Garden University: A Brief Story of Garden Tools, an Artisan’s Insights, and How to Care for Your Tools
August 3 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Seth Pauley of Red Pig Tools is coming to give you an overview on the history of garden tools, and guide you through caring for your tools!
From prehistoric times to the present, humans have designed, built, and used a multitude of tools to improve their environment and help attain a lasting food supply. Many of today’s garden tools are but kissing cousins of the ancient tools used by the Romans and medieval Europeans. In this talk, artisan blacksmith and toolmaker Seth Pauley of Red Pig Garden Tools shares a brief overview of the history of garden tools through anecdotes and stories. He also covers topics such as the key parts of a garden tool and how to identify the characteristics of a high quality garden tool, and what is needed to properly care for quality garden tools. We will do a brief demonstration of DIY sharpening techniques.
